Udine and Friuli Venezia Giulia

Udine is located in North-eastern Italy, in the center of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. Udine has a strategic position: it is close to Venice (less than 2 hours by car or train), to other historical, artistic, cultural, and touristic towns (Aquileia, Cividale, Grado, S. Daniele, Palmanova), to the Alps and to the Adriatic sea (to reach Grado or Lignano, two well known touristic resorts, takes less than 1 hour by car). Also Austrian and Slovenian borders are easily reached.
Udine is a rather small town, with 100.000 inhabitants, it is a very lovely and quiet place, and it has an ancient, clean, and animated historical center. Historically, Udine was part of the Venice Republic, and its most beautiful buildings, reminiscent of Venetian architecture, frame the quiet walks among squares and typical streets.

Friuli features several beautiful naturalistic scenarios: mountain landscapes in Carnia, the colorful Carso, the golden beaches on the Adriatic sea, and the landscapes on the hills. Also, Friuli hosts some important archaeological sites, and the traditional "sagre" (Summer parties at the open air where people eat very good food and drink special wines) make Summer evenings even more joyful. Regional cuisine is plenty of meat and cheese based dishes, and the region is known for some of the best Italian wines.
