Italian courses combined with: wine and food, history and tourism

When you book your Italian course you can combine it with your personal interests and have a beautiful holiday while learning Italian. You can choose between wine and food courses, and know more about the wine produced in Friuli and the typical products like the famous S. Daniele ham, and historical tours, and have the opportunity to visit some interesting archaeological and historical sites.

Wine and food courses allow you to experience the magical perfumes and flavours of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, home to the prized S. Daniele prosciutto and the tasty frico, which are often served as appetizers. Gnocchi and risotto are popular first courses, together with bean and barley soups and jota, a very typical soup of Austrian origin. As a second course you can enjoy excellent seafood from the Adriatic coast and a great variety of genuine meats and game from the countryside usually accompanied by polenta.

Desserts include gubana, an exquisite cake with a filling of dried fruit, nuts and grappa, different types of strudels. The taste of these menues is enhanced when paired with the proper local wine, the pride of the region, where eight D.O.C areas have reached world class level.

The program includes visits to well known wineries, cheese makers, ham factories where the proud owners will delight you offering an excellent tasting of their products. This is the right occasion to taste fine wines like: Tocai Friulano, Verduzzo Friulano (Ramandolo is exceptional), Pinot Grigio, Ribolla Gialla, and the rare and precious Picolit, a famous "meditation wine", or the sturdy red wines such as Cabernet, Schioppettino, Refosco and Merlot, just to mention a few, which are the perfect complement to the refined dishes of this delightful corner of Northern Italy. You'll enjoy special visits to leading wineries yards as well as wine bars where the wine makers will share their knowledge about the wine-making process while you taste a good glass of wine!
